Coquina Kitchen

A fictional counter-service lunch spot in Cocoa. Order at the window, eat at the picnic tables. Coquina are the tiny striped clams that wash up on Florida beaches in every color.

Sample concept, not client work. The business shown is fictional.

What was designed

A two-page menu, a print set (rack card, catering sell sheet, poster) and a month of social posts. Three separate packages, designed to look like one kitchen.

The mark

A coquina shell drawn as a fan: seven wedges that spread up from a small rounded hinge at the bottom, alternating coral, butter and teal, like the stripes on the real shell. The wordmark is “coquina” in lowercase, heavy and a little rounded, with “kitchen” small beside it.

The menu

One page for the window: sandwiches and plates, set in two columns with the price flush right on dot leaders. One page for the rest: sides, drinks, kids, and a short line about allergens that the owner supplies. Items are made up (a pressed Cuban, a grouper salad plate, mango slaw, a key lime square). A web version of the same menu is part of the package, with the same wording as the print PDF.

The sample leaves every price as an empty slot. On a real job the slots hold your prices.

The print set

  • Rack card for hotel lobbies and the visitor center.
  • Catering sell sheet: one page, what’s on offer, how to order.
  • Poster for the window.

The social posts

A month’s worth, up to 12 finished posts and stories. They reuse the fan, the three colors and the same big lowercase type, so a post reads as Coquina Kitchen before anyone sees the name.

Type

Bricolage Grotesque for headings, because menus get read standing up, quickly. Karla for descriptions and prices. Both open-license.

In the package

Three separate packages. There’s no bundle price for these three; each is priced alone.

What’s in it

  • Menu design: 1 to 2 pages, print PDF and web version, no photography.
  • Marketing print set: flyer or rack card, sell sheet, poster.
  • Social graphics month: up to 12 finished posts and stories, one prepaid month. It ends by itself. Nothing renews.

Printing is your printer’s job and your printer’s bill.

Three decisions

  1. Prices flush right, regular weight.

Prices sit flush right on dot leaders, in regular weight. The eye should find the item first and the number second.

  2. Three colors, one in charge.

Coral leads, butter supports, teal is for the small text and the dark panels. A menu with five competing colors looks like a pizza coupon.

  3. Posts get a template, not a mood.

Same grid, same type size, same corner for the shell. The month goes faster and nothing looks pasted in.
