Saw Palmetto Lawn & Yard

A fictional lawn and yard crew in West Melbourne. Its customers find it by the sign in a neighbor’s yard, so the sign does most of the selling.

Sample concept, not client work. The business shown is fictional.

What was designed

Print-ready files for a yard sign, a vinyl banner and a vehicle-door panel, plus business cards, letterhead and an email signature.

The mark

A saw palmetto frond: nine narrow blades fanning out from one point, the middle blade tallest and the outer ones shorter, so the whole thing makes a rounded fan. A short stem comes down from the base. Beside it, the name in heavy slab letters, with “Lawn & Yard” in a smaller line. The yellow goes on the frond; the green holds the type.

The signs

Your printer’s sizes win; we draw to whatever they send. Files are vector at printer scale.

  • Yard sign, drawn at 18 x 24 inches: name, one service line, and a phone number big enough to read from a car. The sample number is (321) 555-0142, which is a fictional number.
  • Vinyl banner, drawn at 3 x 8 feet, for a fence at a job site: name left, phone right, nothing in between.
  • Vehicle-door panel, drawn at 12 x 24 inches, built so the mark still reads when the door is dirty.

The stationery

Business card, letterhead and an email signature. The card has the frond on one side and the phone and email on the other, and nothing else.

Type

Bitter ExtraBold for the name: slab letters are easier to read on a sign at a distance. Public Sans for everything smaller. Both open-license.

In the package

Two separate packages. Each is priced alone.

What’s in it

  • Sign & banner files: up to 3 sizes.
  • Business cards & stationery: business card, letterhead, email signature.

Printing, proofs and shipping are billed by your printer, not by us. Order a printer’s proof before a full run.

Three decisions

  1. The phone number is the biggest thing after the name.

A yard sign gets two seconds at 30 miles an hour.

  2. Yellow stays on the frond.

If yellow is also the text, it vanishes in afternoon glare. Yellow on green stays readable; yellow on white doesn’t.

  3. No photos on the sign.

Photos turn to mud at banner size. Flat color and big shapes print true.
